Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all.

Its implementation helps to achieve overall development plans, reduce future economic, environmental and social costs, strengthen economic competitiveness and reduce poverty.

Urgent action is needed to ensure that consumption does not lead to the over extraction of resources or to the degradation of environmental resources. Policies that improve resource efficiency, reduce waste and mainstream sustainability practices across all sectors of the economy are essential.

Goal Targets

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

1. Get to know the rules of recycling.

Since recycling standards vary from place to place, find out the specific rules for your area. While it’s better to implement reusable packaging in your home wherever possible, recycling is the next best option and it will prevent excess waste from heading for the landfill.

2. Ditch single use plastic bags.

One of the simplest ways to decrease the amount of waste you produce is to use reusable bags.

3. Learn to repair rather than discard.

The next time a strap pops off of a top or a lamp breaks, spend a few minutes to see if it’s fixable, rather than throwing it away and ordering a new one.
